Did you know that the retail price index (RPI) fell by 1.4% between September 2008 and September 2009? This means that the compensation cap on unfair dismissal claims has also fallen in line with the RPI and has fallen from £66,200 to £65,300, reported HR, health and safety and payroll services provider Peopletime.Ltd.

JLT Business Insurance Services is urging employers to remember that under the Employment Relations Act 1999 if the RPI falls or increases then the compensation cap is required to change by the same percentage.

“We strongly recommend you include Legal Expenses cover within your business insurance, as it can take be a vital component of your defence against an unfair dismissal claim”, said Mandy Perry, Divisional Managing Director of JLT Business Insurance Services.
